Citizens for Animal Rescue and Adoption (C.A.R.A.) reunites astray pets brought to our rescue shelter with their loved ones each and every year. When a lost pet is brought to our shelter we post them within 48 hours of arrival on our website and our Facebook page at C.A.R.A (Citizens for Animal Rescue and Adoption).
We encourage you to join thousands of fellow citizens and animal lovers throughout Vermilion County and surrounding areas by following our posts, and keeping your eyes open for matches to the missing pets within your own communities. Our only goal is getting lost pets back home where they belong.
Of the 10 million pets who become lost in the U.S. every year, only 22% of dogs without a microchips brought to animal shelters ever make it back home. For unchipped cats, that number falls to a sobering 2%. Microchipping your pet is the most important step you can take to ensure that your own four-legged family member doesn’t become one of the statistics. Unlike collars and tags, it provides your pet with a permanent means of identification, and increases the chances that he or she will find their way back home to you should they become lost.
At C.A.R.A. all animals are spayed/neutered with complete vaccinations and microchipped before they become available for adoption. We provide these same services at a low-cost for the owned pets in our community as part of our lifesaving mission. Learn more about these services offered through our Veterinary Services portal.
